Legend of the basketball game and entire sports world, Kobe Bryant, was among the passengers who died Sunday morning in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Bryant was 41.

Reports following the crash revealed that there were no survivors on board. Early reports said five people were aboard.

Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also killed in the crash, Gianna and her father were en route to an AAU basketball game with a team mate and her family Sunday morning when the helicopter crashed

In a statement released by the league, NBA commissioner Adam Silver mentioned Bryant and his daughter by name, though, saying, “The NBA family is devastated by the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. … We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Vanessa, and their family, the Lakers organization and the entire sports world.”

The NBA world was in mourning as players had to play through the pain of the tragic loss, players arrived in Kobe sneakers, moment of silence were observes, and in the Houston Rockets game both teams let the first shot clocks of 24 seconds expire to pay homage to a man who was an inspiration to the entire generation of basketballers.

But Kobe was more than basketball, “Mamba mentality” was a way of life, giving you best at all moments, striving for greatness and never backing down in the face of adversity
